Concerning the Light

Concerning the Light

Consider this...
In Genesis chapter one verse 3, Light is created.  Light is spoken into creation, Light is turned on.

Genesis 1:3 (KJV)
3 And God said, Let there be light: and there was light.
In John’s Gospel as well as his first epistle, John talks about origins, and creation. In John 8, he records Jesus’ testimony concerning “the Light.” Jesus testifies that He is the Light.

John 8:12
12 Then Jesus again spoke to them, saying, “I am the Light of the world; he who follows Me will not walk in the darkness, but will have the Light of life.”

Jesus also told the disciples that they were the Light of the world.

Matthew 5:14
14 “You are the light of the world. A city set on a hill cannot be hidden;

In 1 John, John again writes about the Light.  This time John reveals that God is the Light.

1 John 1:5 (KJV)
5 This then is the message which we have heard of him, and declare unto you, that God is light, and in him is no darkness at all.

In our physical world, darkness cannot extinguish light.  No matter how much darkness there is, the tiniest lumen of light will shine out into the darkness. It may not a flood of light, but darkness alone cannot terminate the light. Has the dark ever extinguished a burning candle? Therefore, Light was created to remove darkness.

If Light is God, if Light is Jesus and if Light is you, we need to discover how this is possible.

Genesis 1:27
27 God created man in His own image, in the image of God He created him; male and female He created them.

God had created man in His image from the beginning.  I believe the reasoning for this is found in the very next verse.

Genesis 1:28
28 God blessed them; and God said to them, “Be fruitful and multiply, and fill the earth, and subdue it; and rule over the fish of the sea and over the birds of the sky and over every living thing that moves on the earth.”

It seems that the reasoning for man to have been created in His image was to multiply that likeness and fill the earth with the image of God.

I believe that we see evidence of this with the description of Adam’s descendants in chapter 5. It begins as a reaffirming witness that Adam was created in the likeness of God.  In verse three however, Seth was said to have been fathered in the likeness of Adam.

Genesis 5:1 (KJV)
1 This is the book of the generations of Adam. In the day that God created man, in the likeness of God made he him;
Genesis 5:3 (KJV)
3 And Adam lived an hundred and thirty years, and begat a son in his own likeness, after his image; and called his name Seth:

Jesus being God and the Son of God means that he would also be begotten in the Image of His Father.  Hence, in John 3:3, when Jesus says, “Truly, truly, I say to you, unless one is born again”, He is saying unless one is “begotten by the Father”.

This Light is also an expression of His Glory, as seen in the story of Moses’ face and the veil, as well as Jesus’ transfiguration.

When we fully mature, we will manifest the Light, which is Him, in us, through us.

You were created to bear the image of your Father. It is in this way we Glorify God.
